Thank you so much for a such a detailed, yet simple breakdown! I just started on Substack last month, so I appreciate this info! I have actually commented on your notes boost before and gained a subscriber or two, so thank you!
Thank you for your insight. Your post is something I definitely needed to read before getting too far in on Substack chaos. I tend to try to do it all and it definitely does burn me out. Your take is refreshing and honest — both of which I truly appreciate.
Hey Wes. Your publication is unique as you really share what works and what doesn't without the unnecessary hype. I've already bought 2 courses from you and I'm glad I did. This article is a must read for any beginner on Substack (and not only beginners).
It provides genuine advice and a clear path to grow on the platform without burning out. There's a part which I liked in particular, where you mentioned that what works for a writer without kids might not fit the schedule of a parent, etc.
So true - I can attest to that. Each writer needs to find their sweet spot of growing their audience, income etc. I also look at successful writers and know some of their tactics will not work for me. I really like your approach and how you protect your energy and time, Wes.
I've seen growth so far through building personal connections with subscribers, recommendations and Notes which I keep optimising :)
