Substack writers continue not to delineated "Subscribers" from Paying Subscribers. I was naive enough when I first wrote on Substack that a subscriber was golden and meant I was making money. No once that reality hit, I grew disenchanted with the program feeling like I was dealing with High Schoolers. I'm here to write, to pour my heart out, as a catharsis and to make money. Please indicate paid subscribers vs. non paying subscribers. Deborah Brooks, "The Journey Not Wanted.
Deborah, if someone here says "subscribers" they mean free. They'd say "paid subscribers" if they meant paid. Most likely everyone isn't going to start saying "free subscribers" it sounds tacky.
Great thoughts. Thanks. I've just recently started and am trying to figure out Substack. For this old-ish dog trying to learn a new trick, it's also great for exercising the noggin. Will definitely try a technique or two of yours and comment back with one.
Thank you for sharing these tips! I also used to think Substack Notes were like Twitter. But like you wrote, it's more about community building than promoting a brand.
It's a 'writer' platform after all; and writers want connection/belonging.

appreciate you consistently publishing quality content on publishing on Substack. You've been a reliably great source of wisdom since we decided to come onto the platform back in October. 1.2K - 7K subcribers...its been a fun run so far, and I feel we are just getting started sharing our message!

Visuals are definitely under-utilised in Notes for the most part - thanks for the in-depth post, I appreciate the time you put into it.
Thanks for this, Wes!
