The Simple Shift that 10'x My Substack Visibility (& How You Can, Too)
The tiny pivot that exploded my newsletter growth (+ quick win inside)
"I feel like I'm screaming into the void."
That's what James, a talented tech writer, told me over coffee last month. He'd been grinding for 8 months straight - publishing religiously on Substack, sharing insights nobody else was talking about.
The content was solid. But his subscriber count? Stuck at 285.
"I'm doing everything right," he sighed. "But it feels like nobody can hear me."
His story took me back to where I was only 9 months ago. I had the same problem - great content, passionate audience, but minimal growth. I was publishing 2-3 times a week on Substack and getting maybe 5-10 new subscribers per post.
Then I discovered something that changed everything.
It started when I repurposed one of my Substack posts onto LinkedIn. Nothing fancy - just reformatted it slightly for the platform. The post ended up getting over 47,000 views.
But here's the interesting part:
That single LinkedIn post drove more subscribers to my Substack than my previous month of publishing combined. And they weren't just any subscribers - they were engaged readers who actually opened and read my content.
The real breakthrough came when I realized this wasn't a fluke. LinkedIn's algorithm was actively amplifying my content because it was different from the usual "hustle porn" flooding the platform. My Substack-style deep dives stood out.
So, I started experimenting…
Instead of treating LinkedIn as just another place to drop links to my Substack, I turned it into my content discovery engine.
The results for 30 days?
1M+ post impressions in 30 days
350+ new Substack subscribers
30-40% average email open rate
But the biggest surprise? The authority I built on Substack actually made my LinkedIn content more credible. People started seeing me as a genuine expert, not just another "content creator."
It created this fascinating flywheel effect where each platform amplified my reach on the other. More LinkedIn visibility led to more Substack subscribers, which led to better content, which led to even more LinkedIn visibility...
How to Use the LinkedIn-Substack Flywheel
If you’re ready to jump in on the Flywheel today, here’s quick win you can implement to start leveraging this approach:
Take your most popular Substack post from the last 30 days. Look for the section that got the most highlights or comments. Turn that single insight into a LinkedIn post using this simple format:
Hook: "Here's what nobody tells you about [topic]..."
Story: Share a 2-3 sentence personal experience
Key Insight: The main lesson from your Substack post
Implementation: One actionable tip
CTA: "Want the full breakdown? Check out my Substack [your link]"
This takes 10 minutes but can immediately start driving new subscribers your way. One of my students, Marie, used this exact template yesterday and got 14,000 views in 24 hours.
PS - You can also turn this into a LinkedIn newsletter, too.
Pro Tip: Wondering how you’ll move your LinkedIn followers over to Substack? You can add Substack links to your LinkedIn profile. Or, add it directly to your post (with a little bit of creative work…I explain more of how to do this in my Substack masterclass).
Try it out and let me know how it goes! If you try this, would you come back and comment? Let us know how it works?
