How would you go about “Problem discovery” if you don’t have comments or DMs?

Would you look at the topics that are getting the highest open rates?

Would you email your most engaged readers with a simple question to gauge their biggest pain or challenge?

Great question. I'd see if you can find other writers on Substack in your niche with bigger audiences. Check out their more popular posts and see what questions are being asked?

More ideas: Go to Amazon and find books in your niche. What are the questions or concerns mentioned in the comments?

Send a poll to your audience (Substack is great for the built-in polls feature). Ask your audience what's the biggest challenge their facing right now? Give me 3-4 answers they can choose from.

Get creative to find your market research. This is one of the most important parts, so you're sure to create a product people want to buy.

And even if your first product fails, you can always use it as a bonus with another product. And nothing is a failure, the fact that you're doing something you never did before is something you'll always have. That experience you can then take into your next product.
