…to be fair, I didn’t quit-quit LinkedIn. I just quit grinding away at it so much to grow my Substack.
I used to write my LinkedIn post every morning and link over to Substack. Then, I’d spend another hour engaging with others on LinkedIn (because that’s what we’re told to do, right?)
The results were minimal. So, I decided to put that energy into writing Notes instead.
The results? My simple little Substack Notes started bringing me 20, 30, sometimes 50+ subscribers every day.
You can see from the new Growth Sources tab, 1088 new subscribers came from Notes in the last 60 days. That’s wild. Notes honestly saved my Substack.
I was spending hours a day on LinkedIn and maybe 20 minutes on Notes. Yet, Notes was bringing 5X the subscribers. The math wasn’t mathing, and that’s why I just shifted to focusing on Notes.
Think about it:
Your audience is already on Substack. All they need to do is see your note and hit “subscribe.”
Substack will reward the writers who are investing time into their platform. The algorithm will smile.
Notes just feels better. It takes less time, it’s less annoying than LinkedIn, and it feels more authentic.
Enough of my trying to sell you on writing Notes. Try it for yourself and you’ll see.
“Wes, how do I start writing Notes that get attention?”
I get this question multiple times a week. So, instead of answering it 100X, I’m sharing a roundup below of some of my best posts on how to write Notes:
Check these out these posts for yourself and you’ll learn a lot of my strategy.
But, if you want to take the next step with growing your Substack with Notes, I’m opening up my “10+ Subscribers a Day” Notes Growth Workshop. This is the training where I share ALL of my Notes-writing strategy, including the 3 types of Notes I write every day and how I find my Notes ideas.

This is amazing advice, I never thought of sharing my LinkedIn content here. I’ve made one post related to my work on here, I just never thought of sharing my small lessons that would work well for Notes. Perhaps I should concentrate more on my Notes and less on LinkedIn.
