I find this pretty crazy… Because I’m the type of person that if I am taking a platform seriously and I’m actually publishing my own work to it… Then I dissect it like crazy! I spend a huge amount of upfront time exploring every button I can press and every feature and any link I can click.. yet it seems that most people just open it up write their newsletter and hit publish… I didn’t realise I was one of the minority… What’s funny? I don’t think it’s helped me very much with my Substack newsletter lol… Maybe my content isn’t very good lol
Thank you. I believe the size of our subscriber list is the issue, based on the article Wes reposted. Once we pass the threshold we should get the option.
Amazing 👏 tips. Really grateful for this. I would like to clarify about the custom domain page again; for example, in my case, if my publication name is meera@substack.com, and newsletter name is Edtech by Meera, then custom domain will be EdtechbyMeera@website.com as per your article. Is it an external website you are referring to? I have one but its hosted on blogspot , meerateachestech.blogspot.com
Can I have this doubt cleared? Many thanks in advance. 😀😊
Great post! Re. tip 5 — I curate a local events newsletter, and have been playing around with a paywall strategy.
- I send an email every Tues to paid subscribers and schedule it to unlock & send on Thurs for free subscribers. Rather than rely on the default paywall, I put one halfway down the page to encourage visitors an opportunity to see what they're missing.
– Then right before it auto-sends to free subs on Thurs, I remove the paywall. (I do NOT press update; I just remove and close the browser).
– Then, when the scheduled email is unlocked and automatically sent out to all free subscribers, my paywall isn’t there.
So far, this strategy is helping me convert free to paid quite well as ppl want my content earlier in the wk. and pay to unlock!
Check back at my portfolio over the next few days or so, several new reads will be dropped. Don’t forget to subscribe - at this time all of my writing is still fully-free. You have nothing to lose. Catch up on all the prior writings as well. The next few days I’ll drop :
The charms of Castine, Maine - I just spent a few days at one of my sister’s vacation home up in Castine, Maine. What a great little town. And an interesting close to the end of the vacation.
Asleep on the couch - The boozy journey of one of my best friend’s neighbors. A man who never missed the cocktail hour, until he did.
The Magic man - The hysterical exploits of a magic hobbyist guy we knew socially a few years ago. Sometimes we all wished he’d simply disappear.
The Ambassador and the King, (vol. 15) - The Ambassador visits Elvis in Germany, the Colonel gets put on notice.
Fantastic, thanks Wes! 😊
Banger tips! I customized my welcome email. I don't know about others, but I personally feel good reading something written just for me.
PS - I don't see Substack social media preview settings anymore :(

I think you are in the minority haaha. Just changed a whole bunch of stuff. Super happy with this piece.
Hi Wes, where do you find this? “Substack now offers A/B testing for email subject lines.”
I am looking for it but still have not found this.
Thanks for all your help my friend.
It’s possible not everyone has access yet. @Kristina God write a good post on it:

Yes good question - I just posted today and didn’t see this?
Check the comment I just left for @T. Grant Wilder 🏳️🌈

That would certainly explain it!
Hey Wes shared my story in reply to you.
Happy to help if you have questions re the new tool.
It's nice.
I like KITs better though. Still has some flaws and bugs
Great post Wes. My first thing I want to try is the SM illustration.
Well put, Wes. This article is a goldmine
You can pin comments, Wes!

Thanks for the content but the narrator’s voice?? Come on—car salesmen. 🚗🚗🚙🚙
The best training I have read thus far.
I'm busy looking for the tools to help me go viral... at long last!
