Notes.

I've been writing, reading, and commenting on Notes for a couple of weeks, but I still don't know where they go when I create one. I've written them four different ways and not one of them has shown up on my Substack homepage or dashboard under Notes. Is there a KISS way to figure out where the ether is that they are piling up in?

Hi Jim, sending you a DM with the link. Thanks! There's definitely a simple way to learn it.

Defiantly want to know more about Notes. My question is similar to Jim's. I'd like to know a simpler way to understand these and make them work for my community and myself.

Hi thanks for the comment. The best way to learn Notes is to start writing them and trying it out to find what works for your niche.

There's a bit of a learning curve but the more you write them, the sooner you'll learn what works and what doesn't for you. You want to use a mix of these different types of Notes I've mentioned here (community/collaboration notes, educational, and motivational). It can be a big growth driver.

The Notes Growth Workshop I have linked here is the best way to learn quickly.

HI Wes, I'm still a lottle (not a little but not a lot) confused about what a note is used for. From your article I understand it can be used to spark conversations and attract engagement. Does it have to be related to what you're writing about or can it be about any random topic? Can I write a note just for comments? How does this impact on the articles I write for my publications? Thanks for taking the time. Mitch.

You can technically write your Note about anything you want. If your note starts getting engagement, others on Substack might be able to find you and can subscribe when they check your account. Notes and Posts are desperate. Only your subscribers will see Posts.

I’ve written about 200 Notes, and all of them put together have received about 20 likes, and maybe 2 comments.

Not everyone’s Notes get seen by anyone else. It’s up to an opaque algorithm that none of us controls.

It’s a mystery to me why some account’s Notes get visibility and others don’t.

it seems disingenuous to tell other people that their Notes will be seen when you don’t control Substack’s algorithm.

You can write Notes and have them seen by others if you know how to do it. So, it's not disingenuous at all. No, random thoughts and Notes won't get seen, but certain types will. I'd recommend keeping an open mind and learning.

It’s not the content, I’ve seen plenty of random thoughts in my Notes feed.

I've written a couple of notes but they seem to disappear. I cant see them so I wonder where they go? Maybe I haven't done it right. Anyway either the note isn't there so no engagement or if it is there then there is still no engagement so looks like I am getting this wrong.
