LinkedIn changed my life. As cliché as it sounds, it’s true.
When I lost my job several years ago, LinkedIn helped me create a business to quickly replace my income. Then, I grew that income 3X over the next few years.
After my mom passed away in 2022, I began posting content on LinkedIn daily. It helped me connect with people again and gave me a new challenge to learn and grow. It gave me something to work towards and get creative again.
We all have our own reasons for growing on LinkedIn, and each one matters. After surpassing 115K+ followers on the platform, I’ve learned a few things I’d love to share.
11 Things I’ve Learned from Growing 100K+ Followers on LinkedIn
(1) You are Your Niche
A lot of people get stressed about their niche. And I get it. We’re constantly being told to “niche down.”
However, my advice is that “You are Your Niche.” People follow you because they like your personality and perspective. In the age of AI, anyone can find information. They want to hear your story.
(2) You Have Something to Say
People are interested in what you have to say. You might be thinking that you have nothing to share, teach, or communicate.
Take inventory of everything you know. If you are a few steps ahead of someone else on a certain topic, you can teach others what you know.
(3) LinkedIn is Unlike Any Other Social Media
The beauty of LinkedIn is how it’s set up as a networking platform. On Instagram, Tik Tok, and Facebook, you have a small space to share your bio.
With LinkedIn, you get an entire business card and life story in your profile. Use your content to peak people’s interest (don’t sell) and draw them over to your profile. Your profile allows you to connect with your audience and tell a story.
(4) Consistency Matters
Like anything in life, consistency matters on LinkedIn. You want to show up on a consistent basis to share your perspective. Don’t be that guy who posts a lot for a few weeks and then disappears.
Posting daily on LinkedIn is one of the best investments of your time you’ll ever make. Even if you have 15-20 minutes, show up to post and engage.
(5) Engaging with Others will 10X Your Growth
Once I began engaging consistently with others’ content on LinkedIn, it accelerated my growth. I spend about 5X more time engaging with others than actually writing my own posts.
When you show up every day and build your “engagement tribe,” it gives your posts an early boost. That engagement tells LinkedIn your posts are legit and will get pushed out on the platform.
(6) Speak in “We” not “Me”
Nobody likes to be preached to. We don’t need another “5 Steps to Productivity” or “Here’s what you have to do to achieve XYZ…” We get that all day everywhere else.
Talk with others and not at them. Let your audience know you understand what it feels like to be in their position. Put yourself in their shoes. Talk alongside them.
(7) Give a 30-Second Mental Vacation
We’re bombarded with a lot of stress all day long. Other social platforms can make us feel like we’re less than or need to catch up.
If we can give our audience a “30-second mental vacation” with a positive message, motivating quote, or engaging video, our audience will associate that positive message with us. I’ve had so many DMs over the years saying “I love your posts and everything you share with us…”
(8) Share a Mix of Videos, Quotes, and Stories
Mix it up a bit. Each post has its own purpose, and it’s a good idea to use each type of post. Videos are for rapid growth; quotes help you establish authority; and stories connect with your audience.
The best creators know how to use each type of post to their benefit. Sharing videos in particular has helped me grow quickly and surpass the 100K+ follower mark.
(9) Find What’s Popular and Identify Trends
If you want to grow quickly, find the quotes, videos, and stories that are already getting a lot of engagement on the platform. Of course, you’re not going to mimic these popular posts or steal the copy.
You’ll repost these with your own perspective and take on them. This is how you can share your unique knowledge and story, while still riding the growth train.
(10) Make your Post Sharable
Before posting, reread your post and ask the question, “Would I share this if I saw it in the feed?” If not, then think about how you can make it more sharable.
The best posts make someone say, “Oh yeah, me too” and want to hit the repost button. You might need to rewrite, reformat, or find a new video that gets your message across more clearly.
(11) You don’t need to go viral
Believe it or not, you don’t need your posts to go viral to grow. You don’t need viral posts to build a six-figure business. I was running a successful business through LinkedIn before ever even putting out a single post.
Consistency matters. I’d rather have consistent daily growth upward than only spurts of growth from viral posts.
Don’t ever think your voice doesn’t matter
The world needs to hear your perspective. LinkedIn needs to hear your voice. Don’t ever feel like you don’t have something to share. Just “hit post.”

Engage with others has never worked for me no matter the platform. I only being nice to others, but never see anything back 🤷♂️
Thanks for sharing these tips, Wes. I’ve struggled with LinkedIn because I have multiple current careers if you will- real estate broker, marketing consultant, writer- each a different audience. With one profile I can’t figure out how to use LI successfully so I stopped trying. I cross post some of my Substack articles that will resonate regardless of the audience but that’s not the norm.
I’ve yet to find anyone that uses LI for more than one position/ career?
